"CliniPro is not just for Diabetes Anymore"

Perhaps no other disease needs as much day-to-day management on the part of both doctors and patients as does diabetes. And over the past ten years, CliniPro has proven itself as an integrated diabetes care management system that gives care providers the tools to record and analyze data for their patients while tracking outcomes to demonstrate compliance with recognized American Diabetes Association (ADA) standards of care. Because of its experience and effectiveness, this cost-effective program makes CliniPro the ideal management system for expanding the types of chronic disease management services it provides.

NuMedics has complete modules for Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disease (COPD) and cardiac rehabilitation, while modules for wound management and hyperbaric management are under development.

"I am happy to announce that CliniPro is not just for diabetes any more," says Kazi Ahmed, president and CEO of NuMedics, Inc. "We now have the capability to more fully meet the needs of patients and doctors alike."

These additional programs will further simplify office systems to save on time and money while increasing productivity. Call NuMedics for additional information, or send us an Email at .

HIPAA Compliance and use of CliniPro

As you may be aware, the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), require health care providers to ensure confidentiality and proper treatment of patient health information.

Since NuMedics receives "sensitive patient health information" in the process of providing its service to the medical community, NuMedics is termed a "business associate" under HIPAA. And because this federal law will attempt to prevent the inappropriate use of protected health information by all of the entities having access to such information, NuMedics and its clients must comply with HIPAA privacy regulations and preferably sign a Business Associate Agreement by the date it goes into effect on April 14, 2003.

In an effort to fully comply, NuMedics has implemented significant restrictions on the manner in which it handles protected health information. Specifically, NuMedics ensures its employees are informed about HIPAA laws. The company has also reviewed its infrastructure to ensure that it can maintain the security of protected health information.

Moreover, NuMedics must look to its clients to ensure all information and transactions are handled accordingly. Complete details on how to use CliniPro with HIPAA compliancy can be mailed to your office on request. In the document you will find instruction on: roles and responsibilities of personnel handling sensitive data, securing CliniPro clients on a network, securing the client work area, transferring sensitive information, setting up dial-in access, employee termination, and information on strong passwords.

Contact NuMedics for additional information on how to secure your workplace.

CliniPro® v3.6 scheduled for release in early 2002

The finishing touches have just been completed on the newest release of CliniPro, version 3.6. Scheduled for release during the first quarter of 2002, CliniPro v3.6 features more flexibility and customization tools than ever before.

Among the most valuable enhancements, include those made to the Patient Encounter process of the Chart. Continuing to use the standard SOAP format, Protocol Templates can be customized to fit your practice's needs. With CliniPro v3.6, the NuMedics System Administrator will have the capability to design Protocol Templates to be used during a patient encounter form while seeing a patient. Protocol Templates can be as basic or detailed as needed to accommodate each individual encounter type.

As an example, the New Patient Protocol Template could be designed to allow you to document all the basic information the visit requires from a new patient. Plus, include sections for you to record all medications and dosages, perform exams, request lab work, and order images. As with past versions of CliniPro, when patient encounter is completed, this information is disbursed to the other related sections of the Patient's Chart. For instance, during the encounter, if you performed a Diabetic Foot Screening exam, the results would automatically appear in the Exams tab of the Chart. If you ordered an HbA1c test, the request is automatically recorded in the Labs tab of the Chart. The Labs will show the HbA1c test as pending until the results are entered or imported via an HL7 interface.

Another new feature of CliniPro v3.6 is Review Evaluation and Management (E&M) for coding. The E&M, which is optional as part of the Encounter, is designed to help your office appropriately code billing claims. With each patient encounter, this function allows you to quickly record the CPT Code, E&M type of Service and Exam, Chief Complaint, Patient History, and Medical Complexity.

With this information entered, the E&M system will generate the recommended E&M code along with messages to ensure that your information supports the selected diagnosis code. This feature prevents your encounter process from being undercoded or overcoded. E&M will also calculate fee schedules based on the allowable CPT Code. These additions will benefit your practice by increasing your chances of being paid on time, and lower your chances of having unintended discrepancies that often lead to delayed payments on claims denied.

NuMedics support will be working closely with your site to update your system over the first quarter of 2002.

Patient Goal Setting and Outcomes Tracking Simplified

CliniPro® includes a report to let you analyze goal outcomes for your education patient population, providing you with a fast and simple method of generating population goal statistics. When creating a goal for a patient, an educator can simply select from a list of templates that have been setup in administration. We link a patient's goal back to its originating template for analysis purposes, regardless of any changes made in the patient's goal.

If a template does not apply, a goal can be created on the spot by the patient and the educator. In this case, the goal would be associated with a category for analytical purposes.

CliniPro's Goal Analysis Report shows patient population with goal compliance statistics for each template, listed by category. Careful attention to the initial setup of goal templates, and diligence in their use, will ensure a smooth and effortless process each time you wish to produce goal statistics.
