Self-Care Advantages

Better Overall Diabetes Control
The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, a ten-year study involving more than 1,400 volunteers with diabetes, proved that by using intensive therapy to maintain near-normal blood glucose levels, diabetes patients can delay or prevent diabetes-related complications. Diabetes Partner was developed with these findings in mind. By allowing individuals to intensely monitor their daily routines, record multiple daily medication treatments, and enter frequent blood glucose readings, Diabetes Partner allows individuals to track their progress and, ultimately, achieve better overall diabetes control.

Early Intervention and Prevention of Diabetes-Related Complications
Diabetes Partner makes it easier for patients to provide detailed log books and analysis charts and graphs to their care providers. (In the stand-alone version, patients can print copies of analyses and submit them to their physicians via mail, fax, or in person. With the telemedicine version patients can directly transfer information from Diabetes Partner to clinicians who use CliniPro®, NuMedics’ clinical diabetes management system, via secure modem connection.) Such ongoing monitoring, which is based on the intensive diabetes therapy model, allows a patient’s care team to identify potential problems and make recommendations before complications arise.

Lower Cost of Diabetes Care
Individuals with diabetes “have a 2- to 6-fold higher out-of-pocket expenditures for physician visits, hospital and emergency room treatment, and prescribed medications than the general population.” With Diabetes Partner, patients may be able to reduce some of these costs. This web application allows for frequent interaction and continuous monitoring (without the price of unnecessary office visits), which promote early intervention and prevention of costly diabetes-related complications.

More Accurate Self-Management and Healthcare Records
The software’s features, including detailed nutritional breakdowns of meals and the ability to interface with a variety of blood glucose meters, facilitate more accurate documentation – which leads to a more accurate healthcare assessment and higher standard of care.
