Kazi Ahmed, Founder, President and CEO Since coming to the United States from Bangladesh in 1976, Kazi Ahmed has worked at a variety of high-tech and biotech companies, including AVI BioPharma, and earned a master’s degree in Business Administration at Portland State University. After being diagnosed with diabetes in 1993, Ahmed tapped into his software engineering background and developed a diabetes self-management program for his hand-held computer. The system, which he originally designed for personal use, soon evolved into two diabetes management software applications: Diabetes Partner™ and CliniPro®. His one-man operation quickly grew into a company called NuMedics, Inc., serving over 350 hospitals and clinics across the United States with our various products.
Gordon D. Barker, Director From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Barker was president, CEO and director of Payless Drug Stores, a company of 1,100 stores with $5.1 billion in sales. Mr. Barker is on a number of corporate and non-profit boards. He holds a B.S. in Pharmacy from Washington State University.
Darlene Cain, Secretary Ms. Cain is Vice Chair of the Board for the Research Foundation Board Officers & Directors of the American Diabetes Association. She is the immediate past chair of the Board of Directors of the Oregon Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association. She has a B.S. in Education from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
Stephen M. Telfer, Director Principal of The Telfer Company, a government and public relations firm specializing in Healthcare. He joined the healthcare field in 1987, as Vice President of Good Samaritan Hospital and Health Center in Portland. He played a pivotal role in the creation of Legacy Health System and held several executive management positions with Legacy. His responsibilities included government relations, marketing and public and media relations. He also managed Legacy's presence with business and civic groups. He graduated from University of Washington with a degree in Construction Management and completed his graduated work in Public Administration. He possesses 25 years of service in various executive positions with local government in Oregon and Washington. He has served on the boards of several public organizations, as Chairman of Oregon Public Employees' Retirement System, Vice Chairman of the Oregon Investment Council, Member of the Board of Directors of Associated Oregon Industries and is a Member of the Oregon Workers' Compensation Management Labor Advisory Committee.
